Relationship Manager - Commercial Banking

Grow Exim Bank’s commercial banking portfolio by acquiring mid-sized business clients, strengthening relationships and delivering tailored financial solutions while maintaining credit, risk and regulatory compliance.

Department and reporting line

Corporate and Institutional Banking; reports to the Senior Manager, Commercial Banking.

Business development

  • Identify, engage and onboard commercial banking clients.
  • Implement acquisition strategies, identify market opportunities and build a pipeline of mid-sized business customers.
  • Achieve portfolio growth, revenue and product penetration targets; acquire reputable companies generating quality assets and sustainable liabilities.

Financial solutions and relationships

  • Promote lending, trade finance, deposits and cash management solutions.
  • Increase customer wallet share and maintain an active client engagement programme.
  • Conduct client visits and meetings, understand needs and provide responsive solutions.

Credit and risk

  • Monitor portfolio performance and emerging credit risks; minimise non-performing loans.
  • Gather and analyse financial information and prepare supported credit proposals.
  • Conduct timely credit reviews, monitor covenants and escalate early warning signals.

Compliance and reporting

  • Follow bank credit and risk policies and KYC, AML and CTF requirements.
  • Keep client and credit documentation accurate and complete.
  • Report business leads, client feedback, operational matters and pipeline progress.
  • Identify process improvements and streamline workflows.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
  • A master’s degree or CFA, ACCA or CPA qualification is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of proven relationship management experience, preferably commercial or corporate banking.
  • Business development, client acquisition and portfolio management experience is highly desirable.

Skills

  • Business development, sales, deal origination and pipeline development.
  • Financial statement analysis, credit assessment and structuring applications.
  • Knowledge of trade finance, working capital, term loans, cash management and deposits; structured trade finance and project financing desirable.
  • Negotiation, presentation, relationship management and communication in English and Swahili.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, time management and organisational abilities.
  • Willingness to travel frequently as required.
