UNICEF Tanzania seeks an Innovation Officer to support digital transformation, youth participation, innovation initiatives, and the scaling of safe, inclusive technology solutions.
Within this context, the Innovation Officer, with a dedicated focus on adolescent and youth participation, serves as a cross-sectoral enabler for UNICEF Tanzania’s digital transformation and innovation agenda. Working within the Digital Impact & Innovation Unit, the post supports programme sections to adapt, implement and scale digital platforms, Technology for Development (T4D) solutions and digital public goods - including U-Report, RapidPro and other engagement and real-time monitoring tools - in ways that are safe, inclusive and responsive to the needs of children, adolescents and young people. The role also helps identify practical opportunities to strengthen meaningful youth voice, participation and feedback loops across UNICEF-supported programmes and partnerships in Tanzania.
Enable continuous operation of ICT infrastructure and accessibility to ICT solutions and services;
Provide help, support and assist with capacity building and knowledge management;
Support operational and administrative tasks;
Assist in the delivery of results.
Education: Bachelor or equivalent (First Level University Degree) in computer science, software engineering, information technology management, business administration or related social science field is required.
Work Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in information technology management, large-scale innovation, digital transformation or Technology for Development (T4D) projects, ICT contract management and procurement, business operations, or another related field is required.
Proven skills in training, capacity building and strategic thinking, and a proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute digital and innovation initiatives and to transfer knowledge and skills to others, are required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Certification and/or proven experience in one or more of the following: digital/innovation programme design and management, human-centered design, data analytics for development, real-time monitoring and digital engagement platforms (e.g. RapidPro, U-Report), or ICT project management.
Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language (Kiswahili) is an asset.
Demonstrated knowledge of responsible artificial intelligence, data governance, digital ethics, emerging technologies and their application in development, humanitarian or public-sector settings is an asset.
Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity tools, data analysis, automation, human-centered design and child-centered safeguards for digital and AI systems is desirable.
Experience in a UN organization, or in the public sector is an asset.
Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
