Finance role supporting budgeting, forecasting, reporting, variance analysis and financial controls for the British High Commission in Tanzania.
The Finance Analyst will support the effective stewardship of UK public funds across the British High Commission Tanzania’s programme and operational budgets.
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will provide accurate financial analysis, management information and practical financial support to budget holders, programme teams and corporate colleagues.
The role will support budgeting, forecasting, month-end and year-end activities, financial reporting, variance analysis and corporate finance commissions. The Finance Analyst will also help maintain the integrity of information held on FCDO financial systems, identify financial risks and data-quality issues, and provide clear explanations and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
The Finance Analyst will serve as a first point of contact for routine finance queries within allocated business areas, helping colleagues understand and meet their financial responsibilities. The role will also promote value for money and support compliance with FCDO financial policies, processes and controls.
Support financial planning, budgeting and forecasting across programme and operational budgets.
Work with budget holders to maintain realistic and evidence-based forecasts.
Maintain accurate budget profiles.
Provide financial guidance and support to programme and operational teams.
Produce timely, accurate and insightful management information.
Analyse movements between budgets, forecasts and actual expenditure.
Explain material variances, financial risks, pressures and opportunities.
Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
Support the preparation of corporate finance reports and commissioned returns.
Maintain the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
Support month-end, year-end and in-year financial processes.
Process and support journals, accruals, prepayments and budget transfers.
Undertake financial housekeeping activities.
Support centrally commissioned financial returns where relevant.
Build constructive relationships with programme, policy and corporate teams.
Provide accessible financial advice and support to budget holders and other stakeholders.
Provide constructive financial challenge where appropriate.
Help ensure financial considerations are incorporated into operational and programme decisions.
Act as a first point of contact for routine finance queries within allocated business areas.
Help colleagues use finance tools and guidance effectively.

Experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, reporting or supporting effective resource management.
Good understanding of accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, journals and variance analysis.
Experience supporting budget holders or providing financial guidance to non-finance colleagues.
Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
Ability to review financial information, identify errors or unusual movements and produce accurate outputs.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to explain financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
Ability to build effective working relationships with stakeholders.
Ability to provide proportionate support and constructive challenge.

Working towards, or willingness to work towards, a recognized professional finance qualification, subject to relevant policy, eligibility and approval, such as CCAB, CIMA or equivalent.
