Assistant Laundry Manager

Support daily laundry operations at RIU Zanzibar (Riu Jambo), maintaining linen quality, garment care, chemical safety, hygiene and guest valet services while supervising a multicultural team.

Laundry operations

  • Assist with daily washing, drying and ironing operations, staff uniforms and resort linen.
  • Ensure guest valet services meet required standards and monitor timely turnaround of laundry and textiles.

Quality, hygiene and safety

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout the laundry department.
  • Ensure appropriate fabric care and treatment of different textiles.
  • Promote safe machinery operation, compliance with hygiene and chemical safety procedures, and correct use, storage and handling of chemicals.

Team leadership

  • Supervise, guide and motivate laundry team members.
  • Support staff training and development, productivity, teamwork and professional standards.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful working environment within a multicultural team.

Coordination and resources

  • Coordinate with Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Front Office and Maintenance for efficient linen and garment turnaround.
  • Support communication between departments and respond to operational requirements.
  • Monitor departmental costs, linen inventory, chemical usage and dosing, and efficient water and energy use.

Guest experience

  • Ensure careful, timely handling of guest valet requests.
  • Maintain high standards in handling and presenting guest garments.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management or a related field.
  • 3-5 years in laundry operations, with experience as an Assistant Laundry Manager, Laundry Supervisor or senior laundry leader.
  • Experience in a five-star hotel, luxury resort or all-inclusive resort is highly desirable.

Skills

  • Knowledge of commercial laundry machinery, wash formulas, chemical applications and safe handling.
  • Understanding of fabric care and stain removal.
  • Organisational and operational management skills and attention to cleanliness and presentation.
  • Ability to train, mentor and motivate a diverse team; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
